The term Paediatric is age specific & as per the American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) and encompasses the age group – new born to 18 years.

 

The Department of Paediatric Surgery at Maharaja Agrasen Hospital deals with all surgical problems from the new born till they attain 12 years of age. In-fact, Obstetricians consult them for ante-natal (in Utero) detected birth defects also.

 

There are two Paediatric Surgeons – Dr. Harsh Wardhan & Dr. Anju Gambhir in the department.

 

They conduct all surgeries in the new born including birth defects like Tracheo-esophageal Fistula with Esophageal atresia, Diaphragmatic Hernia, GIT obstructions in the Neonates, Hamartomas, Tumours, Cysts, Hypospadias & all other Paediatric Urologic disorders. Laparoscopic intervention where feasible is also done. Long line insertions are done on a routine basis. Preventive issues pertaining to the fetus are taken care of Surgical emergencies including trauma are also managed diligently.

 

Recently, unusual cases like Multiple Foreign Bodies (injection needles) in the whole body, Wandering Spleen with Gastric Volvulus were dealt with successfully by Dr. Anju Gambhir & a case of Bilateral Lung Hydatid by Dr. Harsh Wardhan.

 

Dr. Anju Gambhir was awarded Fellowship of the Indian Association of Paediatric Surgeons in Oct.2010 – FIAPS. She also assists in editing the Journal of Neonatology (A national publication) and contributes a regular column Web-Watch in the prestigious journal which is read by over 6000 Neonatologists quarterly.

 

She has also been visiting faculty at National IAP Conferences and has been invited as faculty at the Annual Neonatology Conference organised at Chennai in December’ 2011.
